Having won last year’s title alongside TIS rider Kristina Clonan, Tasmania’s newly crowned national omnium champion joined forces with Josie Talbot with the intention of defending her title.
But Clonan and South Australian Maeve Plouffe spoiled Stewart’s hopes of another win, clocking up 47 points to finish three points clear with Ashlee Jones and another TIS rider, Ruby Roseman-Gannon, on 23 points in third.
Launceston’s Lauren Perry teamed up with Western Australia’s Dharlia Haines and finished eighth.
Speaking to AusCycling Team after Friday’s win, Stewart said she was feeling a lot stronger thanks to some big efforts on the training track.
“I’m really happy to see some progress over the last couple of years since my comeback,” Stewart said.
“Everything seems to be on track, I just need to keep moving forward.”
Stewart was scratched from the Womens Austral.
