The River Hub at Cimitiere Point development is recommended to be approved by the West Tamar Council at its final meeting of the year. 

Along with 40 wet berths, a 45-space car park, 10 car and boat trailer spaces, a boat ramp and a new public foreshore would be constructed. 

A public river landing, viewing deck, riverside board walk and grassed areas are also included. 

A facilities building for customers of the marina will have bathrooms, a small laundry and a small multipurpose room. The project is expected to cost about $6 million.

A net parking surplus of more than 20 spaces is expected, the development application said. 

“This will result in a significant improvement in parking conditions in the locality, even with the new development areas taken into account,” it said. 

A Parks and Wildlife Service reserve activity assessment, included in the application, said this project was considered essential for the final stage of the Rosevears tourism development because it would capitalise on the buoyant tourism market. 

The application said the site remained a vital link through history and travel on the Tamar River, and that the proposal had been subject to “extensive assessment”. 

The project would be completed over four stages.

West Tamar mayor Christina Holmdahl said, despite the proposal being before the council, that it would be a fantastic project.

“It will completely revitalise the way we use that part of the river and that will bring huge economic benefit to that part of the region,” Cr Holmdahl said. 

The development application received no representations against the plan, which Cr Holmdahl said was surprising. Despite the project no receiving any representations, which would normally see it automatically approved for development, the council decided to bring it to council for a decision. 

“Because of the size of the project, we thought it was best to bring it back to council for a vote,” she said. 

The meeting will be held at 1.30pm at Windsor Community Precinct.
