The mother and son will sing White Christmas, as well as performing The Man with the Bag and Sleigh Ride, respectively as solo artists.

While they have performed together before, the Carols event will be their first in front of such a large audience, Mr Innocent said.

“It’s going to be fantastic, I’ve been wanting to do a duet for years,” he said.

“I love that [the Carols are] such a family event. [White Christmas is] a happy song about spending time with loved ones and it’s a happy time of year.”

The Carols will be a good way for Mr Innocent to finish his year, after receiving his TCE results and before heading to Sydney and Europe in January with the National Choral School and then on to study musical theatre at Griffith University in Brisbane.

“I’ve always been surrounded by music in the house. I don’t think there was a moment I chose music, it was just there,” he said.

Ms Sam, who has been performing at Launceston’s Carols event for 15 years, said it was a bittersweet moment for her to be performing with her son.

“This is the first time we’ve done anything to this scale,” Ms Sam said.

“It’ll be just lovely. There have been lots of last moments this year [with Hanlon finishing school], but this is a first time,” she said.
