SES assistant director Leon Smith said their advice from the Bureau of Meteorology suggested heavy rain and flash flooding were most likely across the North and East Coast – with up to 150mm of rain possible.
“If that rain falls in a relatively short time frame we’re actually looking at flash flood opportunities which is very much within the realm of this scenario,” Mr Smith said.

The bureau suggested Saturday could bring wind gusts of up to 70-80km/h across the North and East Coast.
Minor to moderate flooding is also expected to develop in the region across multiple catchments with the highest risk in the North East, with a moderate warning issued by the bureau for the South Esk River on Friday afternoon.
SES Acting Regional Manager North Michael D’Alton said they would ask farmers on the Northern river systems to move stock and farming equipment from low-lying areas.
Residents are advised to avoid floodwaters, fallen trees and power lines, and stay updated with BOM, SES and Tasmania Police information – found on their respective websites.
