ArtRage is an exhibition that displays a culmination of works undertaken by pre-tertiary students.
The students think about a concept for their work, and then create a portfolio of work at the end of the year.
ArtRage curator Ashley Bird said the calibre of work presented by the students was extraordinary.
“You’ve got some really amazing talents that are honing in their skills and using every medium,” Mr Bird said.
Lewis Lennon, a grade 12 student from Launceston College, is one of the artists hoping to get his name out through the exhibition.
“It [ArtRage] gives you opportunities to meet people and get connections in the art community that you wouldn’t be able to get otherwise,” Lewis said.
Lewis used a technique known as ‘pointillism’ to create images of everyday objects out of tiny ink dots.
“My artworks explore the definition of beauty and what something needs to be beautiful,” Lewis said.
Students participating in the program have gone on to work at art schools in both Tasmania, as well as at interstate institutes such as VCA.
Mr Bird said it was interesting to see the diversity of pieces done by the aspiring artists’ .
“They’re more open to new concepts in art,” Mr Bird said.
“They’re more open to being experimental with the types of mediums they’re involved in.”
The pieces will be on display at the QVMAG from December 15 until April 23, 2019.
