Our Watch is a national organisation that aims to prevent all forms of violence against women and children.
Strong advocates for social justice, the husband-wife duo said they want to use their new platform to put an end to violence against women and promote gender equality and respect.
“Striving to be strong and vocal advocates for gender equality and the prevention of violence against women is something we are extremely passionate about doing together,” Mr Brown said.
“A person’s gender shouldn’t change the opportunities they are afforded in life. Everyone should be given the opportunity to realise their dream no matter what it is, be it playing professional sport, or becoming a CEO or a member of parliament,” he said.
“Gender equality is not a zero-sum game, everybody wins.”
“We all can, and should, take steps to tackle gender inequality whether that’s being prepared to stand up against sexist comments, or by role modelling to our children and young people that all people are equal, regardless of gender,” Ms Brown said.
Our Watch chief executive Patty Kinnersly said the new ambassadors will support the ongoing work of Our Watch “to drive nationwide change in the structures, norms and practices that lead to violence against women and children.”
Minister for Women Jacquie Petrusma said ending family violence is a top priority for the state government.
“Collaboration and support of organisations like Our Watch will help the government to deliver on our plan to eliminate family violence and our target to reduce serious child abuse in Tasmania by 50 per cent by 2020,” Ms Petrusma said.
