Assistant principal Nathan Karas said the pupils became aware of other pupils and parents that were giving back to those in need, and wanted to assist.
Mr Karas said the grade six leaders decided to support Launceston Feeding the Homeless.
“They worked out the best way to help was for everyone to bring a can or some food in to donate,” he said.
The pupils organised the donations and wanted to make a big impact by designing posters and checking on the collection in each classroom. The school also hosted a pyjama and crazy hair day to help collect more items.
Mr Karas said the pupils felt very positive with the result, with all food donated to the not-for-profit on December 12.
“We have such a generous community,” Mr Karas said.
Mr Karas said the school aimed to grow the altruism and generosity of pupils.
