Mowbray duo Ben Bodha and James Storay have been called up to cover of a raft of changes to the Raiders’ side, with Alex Kerrison unavailable, Tom Gray rested and Jimmy Lee released back to South Launceston.
UK import Bodha hit a season-high 89 late last month followed by a pair of 30s, while Storay has taken seven wickets at 19 and averages nearly 40 with the bat after returning to the Eagles’ line-up in round six.
“Ben’s a high-order batter who’s hit some form with Mowbray over the past few weeks and he’s a very good fielder, in T20 it’s important you have good fielders in your side,” coach Andy Gower said.
“Jimmy Storay’s a very good left-arm fast bowler so he’ll just add a bit of depth to our opening bowling and the bowling at the end of the innings.”
Experienced Devonport all-rounder Anish Paraam has also been called up for both matches, while Shaun Redman will cover Alistair Taylor’s absence in Saturday’s UTAS Stadium clash with Kingborough.
The Knights boast first-class experience in Clive Rose and Brady Jones, but Gower backed his youthful side to deliver in the shorter format.
“Last night [at training] we just had a bit of fun, we did a bit of range hitting and just looked to execute yorkers,” he said.
“It just gives the boys a chance to relax and not have that added pressure of batting for long periods of time like we do in two-day cricket.
“T20 cricket is anyone’s game, we’re just going to go out there very positively, have a bit of fun, enjoy each other’s company and hopefully get the result.”
The Raiders will play a second T20 in Glenorchy on Sunday.
