The former coaching inn was built in 1835 and cannot be missed on trips along the Midland Highway.
However, it will soon have a new lease of life as bed and breakfast accommodation and reviving its restaurant.
Selling agents Kate Woods and Ananda Cairns from Key2 Property sold the property for $600,000 to two sisters who have been living in Queensland, but were originally from Tasmania.
“They’re thinking that if you’re travelling to the East Coast, then you’ll go through Cleveland. They will tap into that market,” Ms Woods said.
“It is a high profile location,” she said.
Thought to be haunted by a ghost called “Lucy”, the inn comes with a colourful history for its new owners to uncover.
Tasmanians are used to passing St Andrews Inn – with some reminiscing about childhood travel stops – so the Key2 Property team concentrated on their mainland network.
“We did have some local interest, but we had more of a focus on interstate marketing because everyone local knew it was for sale.
“I remember stopping there as a kid. So many people told us they remembered stopping there as kids.
“It’s a good spot.”
