According to the Bureau of Meteorology, rain is predicted to fall in Northern Tasmania from Thursday to Tuesday. Temperatures will remain high, with maximums of 25 forecast on all six days.
Extreme weather forecaster Grace Legge attributed the sudden approach of rain to two systems that are expected on the mainland and will contribute to rainfall travelling to Northern Tasmania.
“In the north we’ve got ex-tropical Cyclone Owen that’s in the Gulf of Carpentaria is looking to re-intensify back into cyclone strength,” she said.
There will also be a low spinning up southeast of Australia, causing thunderstorms in South Australia, Victoria and Southern NSW.
The low front will be drawing tropical moisture from the cyclone, resulting in prolonged rainfall over the next few days.
Widespread rainfall across Northern Tasmania will be a result of these two systems affecting the south at the same time.
The Bureau notes that low pressure systems are often hard to predict, and rainfall may come earlier or later than forecasted.
