Three pedestrians were attempting to cross heavy traffic before the Paterson Street intersection outside the Queen Victoria Art Gallery, when one of them was hit by a vehicle in the right lane.
The pedestrian rolled onto the bonnet of the vehicle before hitting the road.
He received non-life threatening injuries, the other two pedestrians were uninjured.
The driver, who passed a breath test, was also unharmed.
Traffic became congested along Wellington, Cimitiere and Roderick streets.
Constable Jareth Anderson of the Northern Tasmanian Road Public Orders Services Unit said the police are not pointing the finger at anyone, but everyone should remain vigilant around roads.
“It’s everyone’s responsibility to practice road safety, pedestrians included that’s why we have rules and lights,” he said.
Constable Anderson reminded drivers and pedestrians to watch out over the holiday period and noted this accident could have been much worse.
