Organised by the Lilydale Lions Club through their very own Santa coordinator, Stephen Griffin, the initiative is back and bigger than ever for its second year.

The club has distributed the Santa suits to business and families, to then stuff and place in a “fun” scene outside their home or business.

Standing with a large hay bale Lion constructed by Lilydale Lions Club members Scott Livingston, Nick Wordsworth and Alf Brown, Mr Griffin said they were attracting plenty of attention.

“Every time they go past people are taking their photos,” Mr Griffin said.

With initial plans to double the amount of Santas on display from last year, the group have almost tripled the total. There’s even a map compiled by the City of Launceston council to keep track.

“It’s going to be hard to beat next year isn’t it,” Mr Griffin said.

Also continuing from the success of last year will be the awards – one judged by the Lions Club, the other by the people.

Judges will fan out around the region on Saturday before making their decision – over a sausage sizzle – at the Lilydale Christmas Market on Sunday, December 9.

The people’s choice award will awarded in the coming weeks.
