Police and emergency services were called to attend the eastern side of the Launceston Cataract Gorge after the tree fell about 1.45pm, on Monday, December 3.
The 51-year-old man was one of two workers in the vicinity inspecting a drain.
The work was unrelated to the tree.
It is understood the tree collapsed without warning, falling out from the root structure.
The injured man is being flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.
The other worker present was treated for shock and minor injuries only.
WorkSafe Tasmania also attended the scene and are investigating.
