On Sunday at Royal Park, a fundraiser allowed animals of all shapes and sizes to have their chance to meet with Father Christmas himself.

The Merry and Bright event aimed to raise much-needed funds for not-for-profit shelter Brightside Farm Sanctuary, based in the state’s Huon Valley.

Organiser Andrea Bonner said they were pleased with the turnout, with plenty of pooches arriving since the event’s 10am start.

She said the idea for the event stemmed from a personal connection to the sanctuary.

“I adopted a greyhound from Brightside Farm Sanctuary, and became very passionate about the cause of greyhound rescue and also Brightside themselves,” she said.

“They do a fantastic job and rely on public donations to fund what they do, which is rehome, rehabilitate, and rescue all types of animals.”

The event was put on with help from Innerspace Wardrobes’ Rosie Saville, and photographer Rebecca Kostka of Shy Wolf Photography.

Kristin Smith said her and her 11-year-old daughter Lucy brought their two pugaliers along to the fundraiser as they wanted to help support Brightside.

“And, we thought it would be cute and something different,” she said.

Founded by Emma Haswell, Brightside Farm Sanctuary is home to more than 200 animals, including dogs, cows, sheep, donkeys, pigs, horses, geese, hens, goats, and ducks.
