After serving Turkish treats from a food van at Harvest and Evandale markets each weekend and the city’s Eat Street at East Launceston, Turkish Tukka has opened up a store in George Street, Launceston.
The new store, which has been open for three weeks, serves traditional Turkish kebabs, falafel, fresh salads, Turkish sweets, Turkish tea and coffee and, of course, the gozleme the city’s foodies already love.
“We make very traditional kebabs, with the meat cooked over charcoal. We buy local meat and cut it and marinate it ourselves,” Mr Karazor said.
“They are different to normal kebabs; they are very traditional. We’ll add chips if people ask,” he said.
Turkish Tukka’s food van customers have been visiting the store, but its new permanent location has also attracted new faces.
“It’s been really busy. I wasn’t expecting it to be so busy,” he said.
“We’ve had good feedback.”
Mr Karazor tested the waters by opening for lunch initially but will open on Friday and Saturday night this week, extending to more nights from next week.
“I wanted to see how it goes with lunch before I open for dinner. I will keep the same menu for dinner, but add some specials,” he said.
Turkish Tukka is open from 11am at 77 George Street, Launceston, between Tuesday and Saturday.
