It seems a far-fetched concept that you could build a whole new suburb from scratch.

But that is exactly what Traders in Purple have done.
The Examiner has been given the exclusive first look at the master plan for Traders in Purple’s mega-development Ridgeside, which will be built near Evandale.
Traders in Purple have done the impossible – they have planned and designed a whole new precinct for Launceston and Northern Tasmania.
The devil is in the detail, and does this master plan have the detail.
Exquisitely designed sweeping roads, a hotel, an AFL-sized football field, an aged care facility.
And all with enough room for 600 residential lots – who wouldn’t want to live there?
Developments as large as Ridgeside often go down like a lead balloon among the communities that it is likely going to affect.
However, Traders in Purple have not received much negative attention – and there is a very clear reason why.
The developers have gone out of their way, and into their pockets, to put the community at the forefront.
They took community consultation very seriously, and addressed some of the key concerns that were raised from the process.
They estimate they spent $100,000 on community consultation, but that money appears to have been worth every penny.
A development like this will provide dearly sought-after affordable housing options but will also become a lively precinct in its own right.
The development has catered for everyone – and has also kept its site in mind.
Agriculture remains a huge part of the Ridgeside development, even if it is primarily a residential subdivision.
It also will cater for the education of its residents, with training facilities in agribusiness and hospitality part of the master plan.
The benefits of a suburb like Ridgeside for Northern Tasmania are clear – it might take 20 years, but it will be an asset for future communities.
And an idea like that is well worth supporting.
