At the official opening on Wednesday night, guests had the opportunity to hear from David Warren, the co-founder of $3 billion ASX-listed software company Altium.
It was a night that encapsulated what FoundX is all about: providing networking, mentoring, and learning opportunities, that have been tailored to the unique challenges of regional centres like Launceston.
It will be hosting events aimed at fostering the startup community on a continuing basis, through Enterprize on Paterson Street.
Mr Warren, who travelled from Hobart to speak at the inaugural gathering, said he was excited to see business opportunities increasing in regional Tasmania.
IN OTHER NEWS:
“I’m very interested in the innovation space, and the Enterprize people are doing a great job of presenting innovation and entrepreneurship in Tasmania,” he said.
Mr Warren’s tech company has created computer-aided design software for the likes of NASA, BMW, IBM, CSIRO and Telstra. He is also a keen astronomer, and has been part of an international team which has made crucial galactic discoveries.
His advice for potential entrepreneurs in Launceston is simple and to-the-point.
“Just do it,” he said. “Just do it. The risks are imaginary, actually. And the more people tell you ‘you’re mad, you’re mad,’ the more you’re right.”
FoundX is an initiative of financial services provider Crowe Horwath, that operates in regional cities across Australia and New Zealand.
Information on upcoming events will be available online at www.foundx.com and on their twitter page, @FoundX_.
