That is according to the Tasmanian Health Service.
Fairfax on Tuesday revealed how relatively well Tasmanian surgeons were faring.
Tax office figures showed that was $79,043 more than the national average for surgeons in that year.
Tasmania’s size results in more senior surgeons and a lower proportion of students and junior staff and this is another factor that will impact on average salaries.

A THS spokesman said it was difficult to say why Tasmanian surgeons averaged much higher taxable incomes.
“While locum use may contribute, an average is also an expression of the profile of the workforce,” he said.
“Tasmania’s size results in more senior surgeons and a lower proportion of students and junior staff and this is another factor that will impact on average salaries.”
Surgeons were the highest paid profession in Tasmania and nationally.
