Same-sex marriage
I CONFESS I voted against same-sex marriage in the postal plebiscite, mainly because of the high divorce rate in heterosexual marriage which I felt may be more than replicated in same-sex marriage.

Since the legalisation of same-sex marriage “the sky hasn’t fallen in”.
I noted in his telecast Malcolm Turnbull stated that more than 5000 had availed themselves of the opportunity. I wish them well.

Free to air
DOES Fox Sport have a monopoly on One Day International and T20 international cricket for the Australian cricket season of 2018/2019? With free-to-air Channel 7 seemingly in the cricketing background, it may be a season of “Narrow World of Sport/Free-To-Air-Cricket?

Basic right
A RECENT letter from Allan Carey mentions that Geoff McLean has some obsession regarding a conspiracy to strip children of their basic rights.
If that basic right includes sitting down while the Australian national anthem is being played, then so be it. Every Australian has a choice. I haven’t seen any written law that tells us we have to stand for the national anthem.
Mr Carey goes on to say how “millions of Australians stand in unification, shoulder to shoulder for the anthem in a display of basic respect”. Not every true Australian does, Mr Carey.
Mr Carey also mentions the AFL Grand Final, displayed around the world, where people are more interested in getting a beer than listening to some reality show person murdering the worst national anthem the world has ever seen.
He also mentions respect while the anthem is played. I saw an example of this during a V8 Supercar race in Queensland. The camera panned over the main grandstand while the anthem was being sung, (I had the volume turned down) not one of the people had enough respect to remove their caps.
If I attend a function such as Anzac Day or Remembrance Day, I stand to attention to salute the flag, not the national anthem.

Remembrance Day
FOR 100 years we have observed Remembrance Day. Never to forget the horrors of war. Australia has been involved in 13 wars/conflicts since the end of World War II.
Some were against international law and provoked by vested interest in the USA. How many Remembrance Days are needed before we become a peaceful nation?

Medicinal cannabis
MEDICINAL cannabis may not be the magic cure-all that some people think. But it is the only thing that some patients can take that gives them relief and some sort of normality too their lives.
So why is so many who apply for it through their experts on their advice being told to go back to traditional medicine?
Surely if someone gets relief to their conditions from using it in a controlled environment that would not only benefit them but also the health system as well.

Honesty gone
WHAT a busy and innovative individual our esteemed Prime Minister Scott Morrison appears to be.
Travelling across the country in his very blue bus, voicing his empty promises and opinions, which I find boring and without merit.
His comments over the backstabbing and unsavoury throwout of ex-Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull with he being without any involvement, left me asking the question, does he think all voters are stupid not to see how he could not step in fast enough to take the top job, he must be away with the fairies.
The days of honesty and comradeship in politics is fast becoming a distant memory as ambition, greed and selfishness is the ruling factor.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has one consolation if he loses the next federal election, he has that very blue bus to drive into the sunset and I’ll make sure to be there to wave him goodbye.
Jo Ford, Legana.
Respect
NOVEMBER 11, 1918 - 2018, 100 years on and Scott Morrison makes a career out of the age old Australian political tradition of porking the barrel and shows off his fandangled “Scomo Express”.
Meanwhile too many women continue to die from family violence.
Too many young women referred to as “fillies”, too many young men as “colts”.
Too many young people taking their own life from not receiving the respect they deserve.
Let us not forget to respect the living, breathing “young’uns of today”.
True respect cannot thrive in degrading sexual references, nor in fear of a clip around the ear.
Only in showing the young respect with love and understanding can they grow to respect themselves and the world around them.
Not just the thin veneer respect of “please” and “thank you” social graces, but soul deep behind closed doors respect that lasts forever.
Lest we forget many of those who died 100 years ago were living, breathing, “young’uns of today” who died believing in a dream where our Planet Earth, our Australia would be free of poverty, greed, violence, the white Australia policy.
Hundred years since the end of World War I, it is so impossible to believe with love, respect and understanding enough we can work together to make that dream come true.
