Adam Beechey powered away right from the start, opening up a significant lead over Steve Latham until a caution a third of the way into the strong 30-lap final.
At the restart, Beechey once again pulled away until he encountered a battling group of backmarkers within just 10 laps of the flag.
The Launceston driver’s lead was eroded and Latham took advantage, passing low on the track in traffic.
Dave Nicholls was well back in third place, fending off Gil Aylett in the dying stages of the race.
But the excitement came down to when Latham held out the luckless Beechey right until the end.
The duo crossed the line just a shade of a car length together and also a mere 0.2 seconds apart.
But the race of the night proved to be an intense battle between Jayden Triffett and Cody Gay in the junior top stars contest.
Both drivers raced side by side for many laps with the rivals trying different lines over the 15-lap race.
The gap between the pair remained under a second for the whole race, but Triffett took the victory by the narrowest of margins from Gay, with Paige Allison third.
Stevie Smith dominated the junior new stars having finally sorted out the reliability of her car, winning a first final by a massive distance from Sharni Farrell.
The Tassie Sixes delivered a breakthrough win for Paul Howard, who started out behind the leaders on the opening lap in fourth place.
Dwaine Sonners led early until Mark Bryant passed him on lap five.
On lap ten, Howard moved into second place and set out after Bryant, who succumbed to a gearbox problem.
Howard then withstood immense pressure from a determined Caide Bryant in the run to the flag ahead of Sonners and Claire Johnson.
The wingless final had a fast close race, with Brad Whitchurch winning by just a tenth of a second from Luke Redpath. Jamie Rolls came home to finish in third.
Perth driver Whitchurch got out in front but found his mid-race lead began to erode before restoring it closer to the finish.
The modifieds had turned on super close racing until a mid-race stoppage gave Andy Russell a clear track.
He capitalised on the opportunity and took a decisive win from Brad Herbert and Trent Quillerat.
A massive field of Street Stock went flag to flag.
Ben Riley led early until Corey Bauld passed his rival in traffic, all the while Dale Riley jnr was decisively working his way up from fifth.
Riley jnr passed Bauld for victory in the closing laps, leaving Ben Riley in third.
Todd Bennett survived the carnage in the Bombers to win in what was another heavy-contact battle, with only three cars actually completing the race.
The karts had started the proceedings on Saturday, with Kaleb Sims winning the junior final while Cody Dransfield won the seniors and Timmy Auton the 125s.
