Sally’s Ride fundraises to support youth resilience and youth suicide prevention.

Rotary Club of Central Launceston member and Sally’s Ride co-chairman Alan Harris said he was happy with how the day turned out.

“We had about 450 riders turn up to the events, which we were very happy with, because there’s obviously a lot on this weekend,” he said.

The event began at Launceston’s Royal Park on Sunday, November 18.

The 10-kilometre family rides began at 10am and 11am, with the 45-kilometre challenge beginning at 10am, 75-kilometre at 9.30am, 100-kilometre at 8.30am, and 160-kilometre at 7am.

“We had excellent weather from a cycling point of view, nice and still in the morning and the wind came up in the day to push all the riders home, so everyone was happy from that point of view.

“It just ran like clockwork.”

Mr Harris said he expected the event to have raised between $15,000 and $20,000 for the prevention of youth suicide in Northern Tasmania, with the charity yet to be selected.

“We were very pleased with what happened, and the funds that were raised,” he said.

“We want to thank all the Rotarians and their families who came along to help. There were more than 100 volunteers on the day there to make it all work.”

He said it was the second year the event had a family ride, and that the club looked forward to building it up further next year.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone again next year,” Mr Harris said.

Dates are yet to be confirmed, but the event will take place near the end of November.

“We look forward to everyone coming back and helping us raise some funds next year in 2019,” he said.
