Monday’s meeting will see two new faces join the table – councillors Kristi Chapple and Lesa Whittaker.
Notices of motions from councillors Kylie Wright, John Tucker, and mayor Mick Tucker will look at kerbs and guttering and a directional sign at Cornwall, a safety fence for the Scamander Mouth play area, rubbish vouchers, and low cost and free public camping.
An interesting motion from Cr Wright will call for a street library to be installed in the Four Mile Creek recreation area.
The request came from the Friends of Four Mile Creek, who asked for the support of council in installing a small post mounted enclosure on the village green which could hold a collection of books.
The street library movement calls for the community to “take a book, give a book, share a book”.
If the council passed the motion, the group aimed to have the library operational by Christmas.
Council will also discuss a proposal from the St Helens Hospital Auxiliary to operate the St Marys Tip Shop.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The auxiliary currently run the successful St Helens Tip Shop, and have at least one volunteer interested in taking this model to St Marys. Funds raised would go to the St Marys Hospital Auxiliary.
The auxiliary is requesting permission for a trial, which was recommended by the council’s corporate services manager Bob Hoogland.
Councillors will confirm whether they support the extension of a Statewide Electric Vehicle Network.
They will also consider providing support for the St Helens Football Club in gaining state government funding through a Sport and Recreation Grant to install an in-ground irrigation system at the St Helens Football Ground.
For the club to be successful, the council would need to commit to a funding contribution of $35,000 in the 2019-2020 financial year against the total project estimate of $90,000. The club would commit $10,000.
Councillors will also consider taking of the lease of the Mathinna Cemetery on behalf of the community.
Volunteers from Mathinna aimed to preserve the cemetery, and began clearing the land which is currently under Crown Land Services control.
It the council entered into a lease agreement with Crown Land Services and the community members cease looking after the parcel of land, maintenance would fall under council responsibilities.
