Launceston’s Scott Smith will be aiming to win his first state title having only started racing last year.
Smith, who drives a Porsche GT3, holds a narrow four-point lead over Hobart’s Layton Barker (Holden Commodore), followed by fellow Southerner Roger White (Mazda RX-7).
With the round carrying a maximum of 150 points consisting of three heats and a double-points final, the championship could be decided on the last race of the day.
On the same program, wily Hobart veteran Nino Bocchino (Elfin Crusader) is in the box seat to claim his second Tasmanian Formula Vee Championship, with a 34-point lead over Justin Murphy (Polar).
Hobart HQ Holden driver Phil Ashlin is only four races away from taking out back-to-back state titles and has a handy lead.
Reigning state Hyundai Excel champion Peter Kemp is also in line to defend his title but has to fend off exuberant third generation Hobart racer Josh Webster, who trails by 41 points.
Tim Mann (Ford Falcon TE50) has already wrapped up the Sports GTB title after only losing one race all season, while former multiple Tasmanian improved production sedan champion Leigh Forrest is set to claim another crown having also wrapped up the championship with a round to spare.
Practice will start at 8.50am on Sunday, with the first of 24 races at 9.40am.
