HazTime allows people to buy access to your time.

Developed by long-time Launceston resident Richard Tubb and his co-founder Yvonne Lee, HazTime “gives you permission to share your time with others and for others to share time with you,” haztime.com explains.

It could be used for mentoring, tutoring or simply sharing knowledge over coffee.

“We want people to find a way way to offer knowledge and skills. My co-founder calls it together sharing,” Mr Tubb said.

“Our target is micro-influencers, speakers, authors and product developers – people who already have an existing follower base.

“They can reach out to their tribe... That’s the easy way for us to grow without investing a lot of marketing dollars.”

The idea for HazTime had been brewing for years, with Mr Tubb dabbling in technology through his work as a social entrepreneur, digital consultant and with GovHack.

“The seeds of it were sown many years ago, but I knew I couldn’t focus on it then.”

Mr Tubb met Ms Lee through GovHack and both work at Transport for NSW as innovation lead and manager, respectively.

One he told Ms Lee about the HazTime idea, “she thought it sounded great, then said she wanted to be co-founder,” Mr Tubb said.

“We both realised we worked well together and she had worked in startups before.”

The app also extends an idea Mr Tubb previously developed for an online social currency, which he spoke about at TEDx Launceston.

He hopes a charitable angle can be worked into HazTime, with a percentage donated to charity, or even the people offering their time making a donation.

HazTime was launched in early October and is invite only for now, with testing happening during its beta stage to allow Mr Tubb and Ms Lee to “iron out the kinks”.

Despite its beta status, HazTime already has some big names on its ‘books’, including startup adviser and investor Alan Jones; author and entrepreneur Polly McGee; and digital consultant Corey Speers, who each offer differing “HazCards”, or activities.

Activities listed range from $10 an hour to play with dogs or have a tech discussion, to $300 an hour for startup advice.

“It can be anything where you’re spending time with someone else,” Mr Tubb said.

“It might be a gelato crawl, someone helping you plan your Italian holiday or being my guest at the Sydney Virgin Lounge.”
