In a new body weight category of 87 kilograms, the Hobart-born 28-year-old mother-of-one was competing in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
Fassina registered a 100kg snatch and 120kg clean and jerk.
China’s Hui Ao won gold with a massive total of 268kg followed by Korean Un Ju Kim (263) and Crismery Santana Peguero, of the Dominican Republic (254).
The result came seven months after the Weightlifting Academy of Tasmania member won a silver medal as part of Tasmania’s record contribution to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Competing in the 90kg division in front of a partisan home crowd at the Carrara Sports Centre, Fassina recorded a 104kg snatch lift before completing successful clean and jerks at 120, 124 and 128kg for a total of 232kg.
Fijian veteran Eileen Cikamatana claimed gold with a 233kg total.
Ashgabat represented the latest port of call in Fassina’s bid to reach the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The 178cm former Newtown and Guilford Young College student last competed at world champs in 2014 when she registered a 227kg total in the 75+kg division.
At the same year’s world university championships she totalled 200kg and she has since won national titles in 2016 and 2017 after a silver in 2012.
She won gold and silver at the Commonwealth championships in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
