St Helens and St Marys RSL sub-branch president Gary Graham said he was very pleased with the Remembrance Day service.
“The weather was lovely, and we had a great crowd. Probably in excess of 300 people,” he said.
He said a highlight of the day was the unveiling of a new memorial plaque in the St Helens Memorial Park.
Mr Graham said the plaque was in remembrance of people from the region that served in the conflict. The plaque was mounted on sandstone.
“Prior to the service, the council put on a slideshow on the war in Portland Hall, which was very good,” he said. “Then afterward, they put on a barbecue.”
The Suncoast Singers performed for crowds after the service. Red poppies were also sold on the day.
“I’m just very, very pleased," Mr Graham said.
