Westbury Show president Kevin Lattin said the great weather had worked wonders to draw a crowd.

“We had a good go,” Mr Lattin said. “We thought about 3000, but hoped for four. I reckon we got closer to four – people came in their droves.”

“It’s a young, family-based show,” he added.

“We had remote-controlled cars this year in our community services shed racing up there.

“Usually we have trouble drawing people up to the northern end of the ground, that helped that.”

The show was opened by newly elected Meander Valley mayor, Wayne Johnston, who made the event his first in the role with some swift work from Mr Lattin.

“As soon as we heard word about the counting of votes I got onto him and asked if he would come,” he said.

“He was sworn in as mayor on Thursday this week and turned up here for his first function today.”
