Tasmania Police has reiterated that this is an isolated incident, with no threat to public safety.
“Police would like to thank members of the public in the immediate area for their patience as we work towards a peaceful resolution,” a spokesman said.
UPDATE 12pm:
Acting Inspector Mel Groves said negotiations with the occupant were “progressing well” and that police believe they will be able peacefully resolve the incident.
Inspector Groves said there remained no threat to public safety.
UPDATE 9.45am:
Tasmania Police remain on the scene of an incident at Westbury Road, Prospect Vale.
Police were called to the scene at 3.45am Saturday and remain in contact with the sole occupant of the house in question.
While the area has been cordoned off, there is no threat to public safety, police say.
People are asked to avoid the area, between Mace Street and Bradford Avenue.
SATURDAY 8AM:
Tasmania Police have closed Westbury Road, between Bradford Avenue and Mace Street, at Prospect Vale.
Police on the scene said no other details are available at this time.
There is currently a significant presence of emergency service vehicles, including a fire truck and an ambulance, on the scene.
The road will remain closed until further notice, police say.
