He said the party started the pre-selection process in the months after the state election and wanted to wait until the local government elections were over before they made the final announcements on who would contest for a seat in the two electorates in next year’s federal election.

Those electorates were both lost by the Liberals in the 2016 federal election as was Braddon.

Former soldier and businessman, Gavin Pearce, was last month pre-selected to fight to win that seat back.

Adviser to Peter Gutwein, Nick Pedley, is understood to be under consideration for Bass having been through a state election campaign eight years ago at the age of 20.

Mr Pedley polled just 536 votes in the 2010 state election for Bass in his first tilt at politics.

This was 0.8 per cent of the votes for the seat.

Mr Pedley did not return calls from Fairfax Tasmania on the matter on Friday.

Recently returned George Town mayor Bridget Archer’s name has also been thrown into the mix.

Ms Archer (pictured) won 1803 primary votes for this year’s state election in Bass, which was 2.8 per cent of all votes counted for the seat.

She said she had not thought about whether she would vie for pre-selection, but would consider it if she could achieve some benefit for the George Town area.

“Honestly, I haven’t considered it because I’ve been so focused on local government elections,” Mr Archer said.

Bass is known to swing between the two major parties and only state parliamentarian Michelle O’Byrne has been able to get a second term in the past 20 years.

There was a 10.8 per cent swing towards the Liberals in 2013 which saw Andrew Nikolic elected but in 2016 there was a 10.4 per cent swing against him which saw sitting MP, Labor’s Ross Hart, elected.

Former state election candidate Dean Young has been pre-selected to run in Franklin.

The party is yet to announce its candidate for Denison, renamed Clark.
