For Behind the Garage Door, Kuruvita photographed cars that are often seen at special events, and those who own them.
“I’d seen a lot of them at leavers’ dinners over the years and wanted to do a project,” he said.
“What I wanted to do was showcase the cars in the Launceston area.”
The cars span 100 years of motoring from 1916, with 52 featured in the book.
Many of the cars are part of an associated exhibition at the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania, Launceston, which runs until January.
Each car was photographed in an iconic Northern Tasmanian setting, with portraits of their owners also included in the exhibition.
“We talked about the car and figured out a location that made sense,” Kuruvita said.
The museum is offering a free entry with every book purchased at its gift shop.
