Mr West, who was the RSPCA Tasmania chief executive, started the newly-created position in September.
He will be responsible for day-to-day operations across the state, including store oversight, he said.
“My immediate priority will be to understand from our customers what our greatest challenges and opportunities are. This is important to me, and with Optus providing better network coverage here than ever before and great value for money - Tasmanian’s now have a real choice of telco provider,” Mr West said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the local team here to build on the successes achieved in Tasmania to date.”
Optus regional head Marcus Grimes said Mr West’s appointment strengthen’s the telecommunication provider’s commitment to Tasmania.
“It was also important to us that this role was filled by someone living locally, who understands the needs of the State,” he said.
“The appointment of Peter further strengthens our regional management team and I am confident of his ability to help grow our business in this key area for Optus.”
Optus announced completion of 37 new mobile sites across the state in August, equating to an investment of $42.2 million in the 12 months prior.
Further investment of $4.5 million will be made to build another eight sites at Cradoc, Magra, Salamanca Place, Austins Ferry, Campania, Romaine West, Jericho East and Doctors Rocks by March 2019.
