The well-known Northern officer sustained burns to about 25 per cent of his body in a plane crash at Hagley in October.
Inspector Hopkins’ plane caught fire in the air, but he was able to land the single-engine aircraft.
He was taken by ambulance to the Launceston General Hospital, but a few hours later was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Inspector Hopkins is now recovering in the hospital’s burns unit.
Commander Brett Smith said he was confident Inspector Hopkins would make a positive recovery over time.
The officer’s family continue to be provided support by Tasmania Police.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the incident.
