Thousands are expected to flock to the Westbury Agricultural Show, Westbury Show Horse Committee president Judy Kilby said. 

A number of horse-related events will happen on Friday, November 9 before the people roll up on Saturday.

The show will have all the favourites, with more than 250 horses and riders expected to take part in show’s riding events. 

“We have one of the biggest horse show committees in Tasmania and we profess to be the biggest horse show in Tasmania,” Ms Kilby said. 

There will be two days of show jumping, hunt club events and draft horses.

“It’s just fascinating, really,” she said. 

On Saturday, there will be kennel dogs, yard dogs, dog jumping and cattle handling along with pet parades.

“There is the pet lamb competition, then followed by the pet parade with pets from snails through to alpacas and the animal nursery which is pretty popular,” Ms Kilby said. 

“There are all the attractions for the children, too. We don’t have all the big sideshows, but we have just as many attractions for young families as they could hope for.”

The show will also have some new attractions as well, including an interactive display by the Launceston Radio Controlled Car Club. 

“We have quite a new very large pavilion and they’re going to set up their race track in the pavilion and bring along their cars for an exhibition,” Ms Kilby said. 

“They’re also inviting anyone else who would like to bring their radio controlled cars along to participate. It’s definitely a first for Westbury Show and I think that it will create a great deal of interest.” 

Ms Kilby said another staple attraction would be the show’s stages. 

“People can sit on the grandstand and have a full days of entertainment because there is stage in front of it,” she said.  

“There will be all sorts of activities going on from children singing to taiko drummers and all sorts of things, and another stage in the pavilion for other activities to entertain people.”

More than 3000 people are expected to attend the event, but organisers are hoping for a crowd of 4000. 

“Because Longford Show was very wet they were down on their numbers, and we’re hoping some of those people might come to Westbury Show and boost the numbers,” Ms Kilby said. 

Westbury Show will be held on November 10. 

Entry costs $10 for adults and $5 for children.
