Last Saturday night, October 27, 2018, seen businesses from Northern Tasmania gather for the Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees Business Excellence Awards.
More than 100 entrants were whittled down to become finalists in 19 different categories. One of the most anticipated awards of the evening was ‘Business Of The Year.’
Winners Kolmark Pty Ltd, impressed the judges with their growth over the last two years as they diversify their business to include the Stillsmiths brand
Managing director of Kolmark, Mark Kołodziej Kolmark’s said the award was a great recognition for the team and their work.
“Winning the award means that our vision that we presented to the judges had some substance and the direction we have taken the business in was a calculated and successful plan,” he said.
“Our guys are committed to the work that we do and that starts from our first-year apprentices right up to me, it is a team effort. There is a lot of ‘we’ in our company and not much ‘me’.”
Since Kolmark started in 2001, they have specialised in piping, industrial stainless steel, tank fabrication and mechanical projects.
Over the years they have expanded the services they offer to the food grade market within pharmaceuticals and the food and beverage industries.
This has seen the business taking on projects with vineyards, breweries and dairies.
More recently the company has branched into making stills for the spirit and whisky industry within Tasmania under the brand ‘Stillsmiths’.
“Over the last 12 months we have grown by eight personnel, which is fantastic we have also increased our drafting capacity for projects which has seen us contend for bigger projects,” Mr Kolodziej said.
“Our mission is not just to make stills but to make and design distilleries.
“We have recently been contracted to build a new distillery at Callington Mill in Oatlands, that is going to be a fantastic facility and will be entirely Tasmanian made.
“The distillery will be totally designed, manufactured and installed by Kolmark and will be a showcase of Tasmania manufacturing that will be open to the world.”
Kolmark also won the ‘Manufacturing Entrepreneur’ award on the night.
