A police spokesperson said a small burn off on a property adjacent to Camena Road, Natone, quickly became uncontrollable on Tuesday afternoon as it was driven by strong winds.
“This incident is a very timely reminder to all Tasmanians that the ground and fuels are drying out and how fast a potentially dangerous situation can arise," the spokesperson said.
“The fire spread into large gum trees, which dropped several large burning limbs onto the roadway and the trees now threaten to fall.”
Tasmania Police have closed the road and Burnie City Council have installed road closure signage.
“This fire occurred just outside the recently declared fire permit zone, however people should check these notifications with the Tasmania Fire Service if they intending to light fires at restrictions are likely to change.”
Enquiries can be directed to Officer in Charge Burnie Uniform.
