Beauty Point's annual women’s only triathlon event has led to more females taking up the multi-sport, according to race director Dave Herbig.

Launceston Triathlon Club’s third 200m swim, 10km bike and 2km run race for women and girls aged 12 years and above will take place on Saturday, November 10, from noon.
“We’re looking like having 50 to 60 entries yet again on an action-packed day for triathlon with plenty of first-timers and experienced athletes,” Herbig said.
“We have plenty of repeat offenders which is a pleasing thing.”
Launceston’s Tania Gaby, who took part in the inaugural event, has enjoyed it so much she is competing at this week’s Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival.
“I decided to learn to swim in 2016 and then the event was advertised so I decided to see if I’d like it – and here we are,” the 47-year-old said.
“I’ve enjoyed the lifestyle of feeling a lot healthier and I’ve met a whole new bunch of friends who ride and train together.
“I am now training about eight or nine hours a week and cant wait to compete in Noosa against 180 women in my age group.”
Fellow Launceston athlete Jacquie Penney completed two triathlons last year for the “fun of it” and fitness.
“I like the challenge of putting all three events together,” she said.
“I don’t like running so that was challenging but I really like swimming and riding. Doing the first one as a women’s only event was less daunting and a great way to start out.”
Herbig said the Launceston Triathlon Club would also host an open and age-group event later in the afternoon.
