Convicted rapist Christo Brown has been granted legal aid to appeal his sentence for raping a 76-year-old woman in her bed.

Barrister Alan Hensley told Justice Michael Brett legal aid had been approved for the appeal and he would represent Brown.
The then-18-year-old entered the woman’s home in July 2015 and told her to take off her clothes before he violently raped her.
The morning after the crime, Brown flew to Melbourne, but he was later arrested and extradited back to Tasmania.
He was found guilty of rape, aggravated burglary and demanding property with the intent to steal by a Launceston Supreme Court jury on July 5.
The 21-year-old was sentenced to eight years’ jail by Justice Robert Pearce on September 28.
His appeal was scheduled for November 15 at 11am.
