Sacred Heart’s division 1 girls team provided constant entertainment on Saturday as Elphin Sports Centre hosted the North’s primary school basketball state championships.

After getting over East Launceston 35-34 in its opening match, Sacred Heart then came back from six points down in the final quarter to draw 30-30 with Riverside Riley.
Alice Mathers led the way with an average of 10.5 points a game, which was only topped by East Launceston’s Zoe Stebbings (11 points per game).
The division 1 boys competition shapes up as a battle between Riverside Gibson and Sacred Heart Baldock, who both finished the day 2-0.
The latter was led by Oliver Baldock, who netted 41 points for the day, while Lachlan May (40 points in two games) did the bulk of the scoring for Riverside.
Other top performances came from St Thomas More’s Fletcher Targett (73 points in division 2) and Larmenier’s Zali Denholm (70 points in division 3).
