Northern Rangers FC have made the difficult decision to pull out of the NPL Tasmania following a board meeting on Wednesday night.
The decision was made following an exhaustive process involving feedback from all of the club’s members and players.
The major factors revolve around the proposed 27-game roster to be introduced in 2019 (an increase of six rounds), which would have seen Northern Rangers unable to host a game at its home ground of the NTCA until round 8, due to Cricket North finals.
In addition, the departure of long-standing club stars was a factor.
“Northern Rangers hopes to be in a position to meet the criteria and apply for a licence to re-join the NPL, potentially as early as 2020,” vice-president Marshall Pooley said.
“The club will also focus on gaining earlier access to facilities, as it seeks to strengthen its position, as this also affects pre-season training significantly.”
The club will now focus its attention on rebuilding in 2019, following the departure of captain Nick Lanau-Atkinson (overseas), as well as joint 2018 best and fairest winners Harry Thannhauser and Pat Lanau-Atkinson, who have headed interstate for study and work purposes respectively.
