Thousands are expected to attend the 2019 craft fair, which will have a new leader for 2018.
Lesley Dare has taken over as the fair's director from Tim Biggs.
“It’s been a big learning curve, but I’ve met lots of really interesting people which is stimulating," she said.
“I have been looking after the entertainment for a couple of years and I ran the admin office, and I just helped on whatever gate needs it on the day. So I’ve got a bit of experience with [the fair] now.”
This year, the fair is focusing on demonstrating the crafts, rather than just trying to showcase them.
“We're trying to have more demonstrations in all the different areas so that there is more for people to see and do rather than just the opportunity to buy," she said.
“We’ve got artists from Cambodia coming and they will be demonstrating their craft which is stoneware. They will have started it, but they’ll finish it at the craft fair. They'll also bring some of the things they made in Cambodia by the very poor people.”
The story of Hydrowood will also be told, with four craftsmen running a masterclass on how to use the timber. People can also learn how to fly cast, with Quamby Fly Fishers also on site. There will also be a community arts tent where people can sit down and learn a craft for themselves.
“Our beyond blue farmer, is a wooden skeleton structure which is being made by the inmates of Ashley [Youth Detention] and then we’ve got blue recycled twine and on huge needles we’re knitting the clothes for it in the tent,” Ms Dare said.
The BeyondBlue farmer will be erected in a paddock after the fair.
About 260 stalls are expected to exhibit at the four-day event held on the November long weekend.
All funds raised at this year’s event will be use to by the Meander Valley State Emergency Service a new jaws of life.
Tickets are on sale now. For more information visit the fair’s website.
