Scams
I DON’T believe I’m alone in receiving constant daily emails saying I had won a car or an iPhone or similar and upon checking we find they are lying, which I would have thought contravenes advertising rules.

A friend said to me “don’t click on them”, just delete, but like many others I occasionally buy a ticket in some car lottery or another and don’t always remember which one, which is exactly what they count on in sending their lies so why can’t the federal government stop these blatant scams for money.

Automobile Museum
HAS bureaucracy gone mad?
To even consider moving the millions of dollars worth of cars in the automobile museum from its ideal position in Cimitiere Street, to so close to the Tamar River and a cement factory is nothing short of evil.
Who makes these ridiculous decisons?
In its present position the museum attracts visitors who may have walked through our beautiful city park and visited the wonderful radio museum at City Park Radio, whereas if it is moved near to the silos, only people who come to stay at that hotel will see the automobile museum and one could wonder, if that’s the reason?
How much more of the city land is Launceston City Council going to give to the university without consulting ratepayers?
It is time we had a good look at who is running this city and who is paying their wages.

Bullying
THE most recent ghastly tirade from “shock jock” Alan Jones, this time against Sydney Opera House chief executive officer, Louise Herron, shows just how far our country has come in the fight against bullying. Obviously and sadly, nowhere near far enough.
His obnoxious, pernicious conduct continues to appall most reasonable people.
Yet his political and corporate sponsors still tolerate and indeed, enable it.
Clearly for their own toxic purposes.
From Jones’ antics, through to those who regularly torment others (young and old), to the point of despair, (as with Dolly Everett), shame on you and your cadre of silent and imminently culpable henchmen and women.
Inevitably and certainly, what goes around comes around.

Launceston Hospital
A FEW weeks ago I spent a week at the LGH in the Acute Medical Unit being treated for pneumonia.
We recently returned to Launceston after living for a few years in NSW.
What I saw and experienced during my stay at the hospital here made me glad we made that decision to return.
I was so impressed with the standard of clinical care and professionalism of all the staff I encountered during my stay.
The unit I was in worked as a real team.
Led by the specialist in charge, I saw a team working together each contributing their skills to get the best outcome for the patient.
It has given me a great deal of confidence that should we need hospital care in the future we will be in capable hands.

Climate Change
WHAT arrogance on the part of the Morrison government to immediately dismiss the latest findings of the world’s climate scientists, and the recent international panel on climate change report, as being irrelevant to Australia.
Not only is this arrogance displayed by too many of our federal government politicians grossly and dangerously irresponsible, it also renders the Liberals’ claims of being better economic managers as absolute rubbish.
Have these politicians lifted their heads from the sand lately? Are they completely unaware of the staggering economic costs associated with the escalating number and frequency of 'natural' disasters across the world, and from which Australia is far from immune?
A significant part of the country, that grows a significant proportion of our food, is in serious drought, with no end in sight, and with summer only just getting underway. Bush fires are now an ever present threat – whatever the season – and if fires are raging in one part of the country, another part faces floods.
A government that continues to flippantly dismiss the science, and champion the very industries known to exacerbate the crisis, is reckless in the extreme.
It's also economically dumb given the renewable energy sector offers far cheaper power options, and considerably more job opportunities.
Former Liberal Opposition leader John Hewson is quite correct suggesting the absolute failure of a government to both recognise the climate is changing, and to have an action plan to address it, should forfeit its right to govern (The Examiner, October 12). Bring on an election.

Paris Climate Agreement
IT IS becoming increasingly clear that the Paris Climate Agreement in which all advanced economies are lumped together was most unfair to Australia.
It depends heavily on increasing proportions of unreliable wind and solar into systems and so reducing proportions of reliable sources which are mainly from fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
This is far more easily and cheaply done in countries with large population densities and land borders to other like countries.
For them maintaining reliability is a lot cheaper to the extent most inhabitants are not even aware it could ever be a problem.
We, alone among the G20, do not have these advantages so it seems there is no alternative but to re-negotiate our part in the agreement so that we can be compared on a level playing field.
