The “state of the art” buses will be a “big step forward” for the company, Metro chief executive Megan Morse said.
“We will be welcoming 20 vehicles into Launceston in the next 12 months. By the end of 2019 our Launceston fleet will be fully low-floored to make it easier for people with a disability in our community to travel confidently and independently with Metro.”
Ms Morse said the company was very proud of the Tasmanian-built vehicles.
“They’re low emission, extremely fuel efficient, comfortable to ride, and great for our operators to be driving,” she said.
The state government funded the project, Infrastructure Minister Jeremy Rockliff said.
“The $31 million government investment has created 26 jobs in the state’s North-West and added to the region’s growing reputation for high-quality advanced manufacturing,” he said.
