The competition, which features all six Cricket North clubs and kicks off this Sunday, comes with the addition of an under-18 competition and the axing of fourth grade and the under-15 division 1 competitions.
Cricket North administrator David Fry said he expected the top fourth grade and under-15s juniors to funnel through to the under-18s.
“What happened in the past was that a lot of the older chaps played fourth grade and helped out the young kids and that had its benefits, but I think we’ve moved a bit beyond that,” Fry said.
“The concept came about last year … and now all the clubs have taken this on board and we’re looking like having a fairly vibrant over-40s comp.”
The over-40 competition will consist of five rounds of T20 matches – one every three weeks - with the top two sides to meet in a final on Feburary 17.
