Resuming at 5-217, the Tigers lost three early wickets to fall to a vulnerable 8-252 before specialist bowling duo Clive Rose and Gurinder Sandhu put on an entertaining 180 in 40 overs.
The pair hit 23 runs off one Param Uppal over and looked set to both reach three figures before Sandhu was caught off Chris Green for 85.
But Rose made no mistake in reaching his 100, knocking a three off the very next ball to finish 102 not out with 12 fours and three sixes as skipper Charlie Wakim called his batsmen in at 9-435.
Australian pace pair Hazlewood and Pat Cummins combined for just eight of the 60 overs bowled by NSW on day two.
Ex-Launceston all-rounder Alex Pyecroft then enjoyed a stellar spell before stumps in his Futures League debut, collecting 4-15 off 15 overs as NSW reached 4-97.
