They will each donate $4000 to farmers in NSW and Queensland.
At the Dorset Council meeting on Monday October 15, Councillor Leonie Stein moved the motion to donate to the appeal.
She said it was vital councils did what they could to help struggling farmers.
“I believe we need to do something to help these people, and with 29 councils donating, it makes a really attractive donation from the state,” she said.
The donations came as part of a request from the Local Government Association of Tasmania to all Tasmanian councils, on behalf of a request from the Circular Head Council, seeking matching contributions towards the Red Cross Drought Appeal.
There was heavy rainfall in NSW earlier in the month, but 98 per cent of the state is still in drought.
At the Dorset Council meeting, Cr Shaun Moore said that if all councils donated, combined, the contribution to drought relief would be significant.
If all 29 Tasmanian councils donated the requested $4000, the total amount would be $116,000.
Tasmanians have donated more than $200,000 to farmers in NSW and Queensland.
