Consisting of events across the state, the week-long innovation extravaganza is designed to showcase technological development in Tasmania.
It all begins on Monday when Enterprize Launceston hosts a launch breakfast, featuring guest speaker Amanda Hart.
It has been a big year for the chairwoman and founder of Social Health Innovations, with her mental health check-in app, Be a Looper nominated for Best Use of Mobile for Accessibility and Inclusion at the 2018 Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona.
She said her journey was evidence that innovation and entrepreneurship isn’t limited by background.
“I’m looking forward to sharing about how grit, consistency and overcoming socio-economic and gender stigma holds the keys to success when it comes to building and deploying a global brand and product,” she said.
“Having worked across the world, I feel sometimes Australians can forget how fortunate they are to be born in Australia; where there is access to a tremendous amount of resources in business building, education and healthcare.
“Tasmanians have everything they need to be able to create a startup that has global scale.”
Ms Hart plays an active role in helping others achieve their tech dreams through the Tech Ready program, which assists non-tech female entrepreneurs in developing their ideas.
She said FutureFest could also play a part in nurturing up and coming startups.
“It’s exciting to see a new wave of problem solvers come out of Tasmania across the arts, technology, education and science,” she said.
“With ecosystems in Tasmania now such as Enterprize, it is now not so daunting for a person with a great idea to reach out and ask for support and seek validation and guidance alongside online learning.”
“Having FutureFest and more startup resources in Tasmania will only help to support and accelerate these great emerging minds.
“Having the local media, government and organisations support innovation is going to be the catalyst for growth in this space.”
Ms Hart will be on hand to her journey and the next stage of her startup from 7am.
The FutureFest action isn’t just restricted to Enterprize on Monday, with a demonstration using a gigabit connection to connect a ship simulator with Launtel server infrastructure to be held at Legana at 10am.
There will also be An Introduction to Biogas presentation at Co-Work from 5.30pm, which will outline the process of anaerobic digestion.
- FutureFest will run from October 15-19 in Launceston and Hobart. For a full list of events, as well as ticket information, go to futurefest.com.au.
