Steph Veltman started The Little Picnic Co Tasmania with her fiance Joseph Humphrey about nine months ago and the business had been booming ever since.
The couple take picnics and grazing platters to the next level, providing their customers with carefully curated gourmet spreads and themed picnic setups.
“One of our main focuses is promoting Tassie produce, it is one of our big things, supporting local Tassie produce and showcasing the beautiful gourmet platter food that we have,” Ms Veltman said.
Picnics and pallet tables were things Ms Veltman had been doing for family and friends for some time.
“A friend suggested I start it as a business and I didn’t think it would take off,” she said.
“I’ve always been rearranging bedrooms and setting up parties for friends and family.”

After months of planning and sourcing the boards, linen, cushions and rugs, The Little Picnic Co Tasmania launched in January this year.
“It was a fairly big investment for us, but we’ve slowly started to get local producers on board,” she said.
The team of two operate the business on top of their full-time jobs.
“I never thought it would get this big. I thought maybe one picnic every few weekends would be good to aim for, but since we’ve started it has been almost every weekend,” Ms Veltman said.
Each picnic is carefully curated to suit the event, with Ms Veltman tapping into her creative side to customise decorations and platters to cater for the host’s needs.
“We can do pretty much any event,” she said.
“We do try to keep it a bit small, with picnic setups of about 30 people, but we don’t have a set number of people for the grazing boards.
“One of the really good things about our business is it is bespoke, we tailor it to our clients.
“Most people are happy for us to go nuts and get creative.”
The picnics can be set up in backyards, inside homes or in some of the beautiful parks and reserves Northern Tasmania has to offer.
“A lot of people over the colder months were having the platters and grazing tables at their home or work rather than sitting outside,” Ms Veltman said.
“People love the idea of a picnic. It is a simple idea, but you are making it something beautiful and unique and something they will remember.”
Platters not only offer mouthwatering array of Tasmanian cheeses, fruit and cold meats, the boards of deliciousness can also be tailored to specific dietary requirements.
“We’ve done vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, low fodmap … and another big one is women who are pregnant, we can tailor it to their needs,” Ms Veltman said.
