The seasoned chef and restaurateur will appear at the Silo Hotel to discuss her latest release, The Cook’s Apprentice.

Containing more than 300 recipes, the book features information on a range of kitchen-related topics, including utensils and how to use them, how to handle chilli, using a mortar and pestle, how to whisk eggs into soft peaks to why it’s important to rest meat, how to test is a cake is properly cooked, and removing stones from olives. 

Ms Alexander said the book was about giving ordinary people the tools they need to create delicious food.

“I was inspired by the desire to make sure that anyone can prepare delicious fresh food, without anxiety and with all potential difficulties explained,” she said.

“This was as always a careful compilation of recipes that were achievable, that represented cultural diversity, and that enabled me to explain as many basic cooking techniques or unfamiliar ingredients as possible.

“I’m hoping people can trust me to lead them to success.”

Considered one of Australia’s greatest food educators, Ms Alexander carved out her reputation through three decades as an owner-chef in several restaurants, and by penning several influential books.

In 2001, she founded the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation – an initiative which aims to develop positive food habits within young children through professional learning and support for educational institutions.

Ms Alexander said her upcoming visit to Launceston is another opportunity to share her passion for good food.

“I love the opportunity to speak with the public about good,fresh food and the joy it can bring,” she said.

“So far, the response to the book has been very positive, and I have been surprised and delighted by the range of ages represented by those that have bought a copy.”

A Morning Tea with Stephanie Alexander will be held at the Silo Hotel from 10.30am on October 31.
