The show’s traditional three-day woodchopping agenda has been crammed into a 10-hour program, starting at 9am, with the inter-association relay race to be decided at 5pm.
Competitors from the state’s three axemen’s associations will compete over six legs consisting of two standing blocks, two underhand blocks, one single sawing log and a double-handed sawing pair.
Another highlight will be the hot saw competition at 6pm, while the show championships will be up for grabs in 325mm underhand and 350mm standing events.
The Dudley Eaves Memorial 375mm single-handed sawing handicap will be sought-after with reigning Tasmanian champion of champions Kody Steers the favourite. He will face competition from fellow Gowrie Park axeman Josh Bakes and Huonville’s Will Lovell.

The program also included a: 250mm standing, 300mm standing, 300mm underhand, 275mm underhand, junior underhand and standing handicaps, an under-18 underhand handicap, a veterans’ standing and underhand handicaps, a women’s single-handed sawing handicap, women’s 275mm underhand handicap, and a Jack and Jill double-handed sawing handicap.
Royal Launceston Show entry is at the gate only, with tickets $10 adults, $5 children between 5 and 15 years and $30 for a family ticket.
