Cataract on Paterson chef Chris Williams has been overseeing the kitchen for the Woolmers Estate cafe since the beginning of October, with plans for the Launceston restaurant to manage both venues in the future.
“We didn’t want to close the doors. An opportunity came up and it was too good to pass up,” Mr Williams said.
“We plan to have a dinner service on Friday and Saturday nights, maybe with a theme, once we have permanent staff,” he said.
Under Mr Williams’ direction, the new menu has “simple cafe” meals, such as frittata, pizza and salad, with coffee and sweets.
He said he was excited about the possibilities at the new venue, including the upcoming Festival of Roses.
“We’re expecting around 5000 for the festival and will have weddings next year,” he said.
“This place markets itself; there’s so much potential.”
Merinos Cafe and Restaurant is located in the Nigel Peck Centre at Woolmers Estate, Longford.
It is open between 10.30am and 3pm on weekdays and 10am and 3.30pm at weekends, but Mr Williams said there were plans to extend these hours in the future.
Visit Merinos at 658 Woolmers Lane, Longford, or call 6391 2230 for information.
